Katie's broken elbow

Last night after jazzercise Katie and Karissa talked me into letting them play outside and I said yes because Karissa got all of her homework done early and she got 2 A's on a science test and social studies test. Well half an hour later Katie came screaming to the door saying she twisted her ankle while she was holding her elbow. I held her and then she stopped crying and was watching T.V. and went to sleep so I didn't think anything about it. Then after I got supper on the table she said she didn't want to eat which is no big shocker because she has become so picky this past month that she hates just about anything I make. So I put her in the tub and when I got her pj's on she screamed. I called my neighbor and she came over and we didn't see anything different. So I called Dennis and Mary and just decided that it was 8:00 I would just go to the ER. Mary met me there and they took us in right away. I wasn't even done filling out the little piece of paper yet!! We got home at 10:30.

This morning she didn't go to school and Jason helped me get her dressed and we went to the Dr at 11:30 where they put a hot pink cast on. It only has to stay on for 3 weeks!!! So this will not mess up her ballet recital or her school program!! I just need to make sure her Easter dress will fit with her cast on.

She was so good at the Dr even though she had to get more x-rays and Mary had to go in because I'm pregnant and she came out with tears in her eyes. It is so hard to see her in pain and I kept cringing when I would hear her out in the waiting room so I know why Mary had a hard time. Thank you Mary and Dennis again. Jason's job makes it inpossible for him to be there.
I took her to Walmart and let her pick out a toy and she got a Make me feel better doll. Right now her and Karissa are laying on the couch and watching T.V.

After the Dr's we went to Chic-fil-a and she wanted to play so finally I told her that she could just walk around. Well she yelled out after a while and she wanted to climb. I told her no because we just got the cast on 15 mins ago, so the next thing I know she's climbing. I guess life goes on. She is my dare devil and it will be hard to keep her down.

Karissa's play and other worries

Last night Karissa was in a pirate play. She was in the choir and she did a great job. She had one cute number where she had to do a dance with some of the other kids in a class.

After that I told Jason that I wanted to go see the new school and compared to the the 5 min drive -this school took us 15 mins to get to without traffic. It seemed so far out. I liked when all the schools were on the same road.
When we finally saw it, it was huge. I'm not ready for her to leave elementary school. I wish I could turn back time bacause it went by so fast. I know as mothers we all talk about the difficult times of our little children of the sleepless nights and tantrums but I have to say this is going to be the most difficult time- the middle school and teenage years. I want to go back to the baby days where I can keep her safe and innocent. I'm going to be a mess at the start of the school year because I'm sending Katie to kindergarden and then Karissa off to middle school. There are things that Karissa is not ready to learn about but I have to beat the system and the other kids' talks in order for her to know what is the truth.

So for those of you with babies hug them tight because it goes by so fast.

Karissa's last basketball game

Karissa had her last basketball game today at 12:30. Jillian got to cheer for her again which was great. During the third quarter Karissa got the ball and took it all the way down the court and scored. I was so excited, this was her first basket she has ever made so far, except for the freethrow which was pretty awesome too. Dennis got it on video which is great considering I didn't have my camera today, shocking I know. I had tears in my eyes and Brooke, Wayne, me, Jason, Dennis and Mary went wild. You should have seen her smile. It was so big and she didn't stop smiling. The coaches were praising her and after she got in the car she called Aunt Kika (Krista) to tell her. Krista played basketball in high school and college so Karissa likes to let her know how she did. The team also won their first game of the season!! They all were on fire today.
She had a great season and got to meet alot of neat girls. Her coaches were the best and Katie has informed us that she is playing basketball next year.

Tomorrow night we have the awards ceremony.

Cat happenings at the Herko house

Our cats love "finding the sun spots" in our house.
Tigger usually sleeps on my side of the bed, but he'll go to Jason's when I get up.
Yes- that is Princess's nose under our bed. She goes under there if she's cold or if she wants to get away from the kids, but she doesn't hide too well.

Spring for a day

Jason had to work last Sat. which was a blessing so the girls and I played outside until it was time for Karissa's basketball game at 2:30.
Karissa is riding my old skateboard down the hill and Katie is in her beach. We can't figure out why she calls it a beach but that's it's name.
It was so nice to get outside. Karissa could live outside- I have a hard time getting her in the house no matter what the weather is.

Karissa

This morning I was doing Karissa's hair and I always make her sit down because she has gotten too tall for me. Well as I was pulling it back she goes, "Why are you leaning on me?" I told her I wasn't and then I looked down and noticed my belly was on her back. She then told me to suck it in and I told her I couldn't because of the baby and I tried to show her. She started to laugh and then she goes, "my sister is already getting on my nerves." You gotta love her thinking.

Last night we registered Karissa for church camp. She really wants to go. I'm very nervous for her because she hasn't been away from us since she was 4. She use to go to VA every summer for a week and we started this at the age of 2. She would go because Jason's parents (who use to watch her) left every summer for Jamaica so I needed babysitters. Plus last summer we talked about sending her and she didn't want to go. I'm glad she gets to go with Jillan because having a friend makes it better!

On Another good note was that we noticed that Karissa is doing nightly devotions on her own. Now if I told her that she needed to do them then she would fight me. She is like her father in that way- it has to be their idea or they will fight you doing it. I'm very proud of her and we have talked to her about it yesterday after our parenting class. I know my kids know God loves them and they love him but I want them to continue this process when they are adults and Jason and I were talking about it because we noticed and had not told the other that she is doing her devotions. She is growing up and I see the childish ways fading. Her Spiritual birthday is coming up on March 22 and I can't believe it's been a year but I think I'm going to get her another devotional book.

I just got Karissa out the door for school and Katie just now noticed a picture of Jason and I on our wedding day (it's been there for almost 3 years now!) She goes "I see a picture of you and daddy at your wedding kissing and you got married for us."
I love their little minds and their sayings!!

Drama

Well last night Karissa came down crying at 9:00 because she couldn't get her tooth out so I offered for her to go to Brooke's and let her pull it (sorry Brooke) but I didn't want to do it either. Not that she would have let me. Then this morning she came down announcing that she wasn't going to eat or take her medicine today in fear that she would swallow it so I had to wake up Jason. He was thrilled but he made her sit on the toliet (no locked doors this time) and he pulled it!! Yeah it's out of her mouth and now we may have a few good months ahead before another is loose.

She is suppose to go to the Ortho in April, but she needs to lose a certain tooth before that happens so we'll see. It seems like everyone around her (younger than her) are getting their braces now and we haven't even started the process yet. She is considered dentally delayed, didn't even know there was such a word.

Herko happenings

This morning I was asked by Katie why we don't have a chicken that goes cock-a-doodle doo. I have no answer except we don't live on a farm so we will never have one. She was upset and when we walked out of the bathroom and she our room left Jason goes what was that conversation about and started laughing. I told him, "you know you could have helped me."

Karissa made the announcement after church that she wants to go to church camp and I was surprised.

Jason's job is not the greatest right now- he's techincally laid off so that means he's back in the building for 2 shifts. He's exhausted because he is doing work he did back when he was 19 and then again at the age of 24. I was making fun of him telling him he's old now and can't do the work. It also means a HUGE pay cut which I think is awful because he is working so hard for pennies. We're hoping that he goes back to driving in May. He gets home at 10:30 at night and Karissa says her hellos and goodbyes right before she goes to school. Katie gets to hang out with him on the days she's not at school.

I'm doing Ok, I get irritated and lose my patience alot faster now that I'm pregnant. I feel overwhelmed all the time which is funny considering Jason's job has never let him be home to help out. So I take the girls to piano, ballet and basketball and then help Karissa with all her school work by myself. I know once my hormones quit I will be fine. I told him the other day that we could possible have this baby in 12 weeks considering my track record. We still can't decide on a name and I think he is waiting til the last min. to decide what he likes. He won't even make suggestions.
I guess soon we will have to set up the baby's room but it's going to hard considering we have to keep the futon in the room for when my family comes to visit.
